Datamed adds new digital services to its patient portal

To make healthcare more accessible and convenient for people in Latvia and to encourage more active involvement in managing one’s own health online, health-technology company Datamed has added new digital services to its patient portal. They significantly expand the everyday options available to both patients and doctors.

In addition to radiology and laboratory results, patients can now also view their e-prescriptions and, soon, e-referrals. A new service has been introduced — consultations with doctors, letting users choose the most suitable consultation format. In parallel, Datamed continues to bring in new medical specialists so the portal will soon offer a broad and varied range of consultations.

For doctors, the new services mean more efficient management of patient flow and the ability to consult remotely. This makes better use of specialists’ time and improves access to care — including in regions where the shortage of specialists is pronounced.

Datamed’s vision is a comprehensive digital health solution that brings together patient data, access to doctors and complete health information.

“Digital solutions in healthcare must not be fragmented — patients need to see the data collected about them across different systems in one place, communicate with doctors and receive services. That is exactly why we are building a unified digital ecosystem that connects diagnostics, treatment and long-term monitoring, making healthcare more accessible for patients and doctors alike,” says Māris Dreimanis, CEO of Datamed.

For healthcare in Latvia to take the next step in digitalisation and meet the European Union’s goal of giving every resident digital access to their health data by 2030, building such an ecosystem is essential. According to the 2025 e-health indicator study, several member states have effectively reached this level already — 100% of health data is electronically available in Belgium and Estonia, 98% in Denmark and 95% in Lithuania. In Latvia the figure is 86%, showing that while progress is significant, there is still room to improve.

With more than 20 years of experience in health IT, Datamed has become an important part of Latvia’s digital health infrastructure — its systems store the diagnostic data of roughly 96% of the population, combining information from more than 100 medical institutions and laboratories. These additions are the next step in an ongoing process: the portal’s functionality will keep expanding, strengthening patient-centred, modern digital healthcare in Latvia.
